Engenius vs Ubiquiti cloud opinions

I have a site upgrade, everything, that I had originally spec'ed a UniFi AC AP LR. But the vendor came back that item is b/o'd until October. They did suggest a EWS300AP as a replacement as they have it in stock. Has anyone used their cloud management software? I'm guessing it's similar to UniFi but I'm what little I found was not very complimentary about Engenius.

Any comments or observations would be very welcome. TIA.

I have used both and must say that the Engenius functionality is pretty nice but their hardware offers very good signal strength compared to Ubiquit but they are more money. I have also used their controller hardware and is even easier to setup and support.

We had a bunch of Engenius APs in offices but people were having problems losing connection. We thought it was something odd about one of the offices, but when we followed up with some others the response was "Yeah, we've been having problems with that too" but they'd never mentioned it.

I don't know more details than that since I wasn't directly involved with either, but I believe everything's been pretty solid after we swapped the APs out with some of the Mikrotik APs.

Oh, and if you do end up with Engenius, go dual-band.

How many you need? (since you're a little over an hour north of me). We usually have at least a half dozen in stock. One of our suppliers, Streakwave, shows over 900 in stock right now.

I haven't worked with Engenious in a few years....pretty good hardware.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I was more interested in the cloud controller functionalities. @acscva any observations about the cloud controller software itself?

Thanks @BlackLabTechs, @Slaters Kustum Machines and @YeOldeStonecat. However these people paid PC Connections by check. It's 2016 not 1916. You'd think they would realize you can get points, additional warranties, as well as instant refunds using a CC. Heck, PCC even waited for 10 days after the check cleared before shipping. LOL!!!

This installation only needs one AP and will be mounted where everything else is. So getting a hardware controller is way overkill. Personally I've never installed/managed an Engenius AP but I have done some work for others that had them. Seemed to work fine from what I saw and heard from EU's. The model the supplier suggested is only 2.4 so I would never get that one as everyone expects both 2.4 and 5. @fencepost, the problem with the Engenius dual band models is the prices are much higher, over twice the price and more, of the UniFi AC LR.

And, fortunately for this site, there is next to no channel crowding. Moved another customer to a new office recently and advised they should get a better AP than the Apple Time Capsule they had been using at the previous office. "We don't need that, it works fine at our current space" Also advised they do copper to all iMacs. Same response. They thought that because, even though there is only a wall or two in between the TC and the workstations, the performance would be the same. LOL!!!

As I expected I started getting calls within days about all kinds of network performance issues. The marginal cost to implement the hardwired, switch and patch cables, was 1/3 the cost of the return trip. As I tell all of my customers there is a reason why copper, as well as fiber, is still the gold standard. When I went back I surveyed the site again and again showed them both 2.4 and 5 had some 20 radios which was why wifi was having problems. I did move their channel from auto to a less congested channel which seems to have helped a little.
