Email provider Rackspace down after Security Breach.

and..4x days later...still down.
I'm blown away by this. We don't have any clients left on RS, we used to way back in the day.
From what I've read online, RS failed to patch their servers from a "ProxyNotShell" exploit announced back in Sept, and MS released a patch early in November. Speculation is...it's what took their servers down, apparently RS powered them down and took them offline.

I’m betting that they won’t be back. They don’t have the resources to rebuild everything from scratch and once they subcontract that out and get back up the amount of time it took and the mass of clients leaving is going to drive them to bankruptcy.

I stumbled on trail from an article on Bleeping...scroll down a bit, some security expect mentioned (and posted a screenshot) of an OWA banner from a RS hosted server showing a non-patched version. Take with a grain of salt.

I've got 1 client on rackspace, however i dont manage that for them as they are a franchise and its all done through their national office. I've warned them there will be no quick fix but this one is out of my hands.

Ok very quick read on that appears to have valid information. mex06 is the server my client is on. :(

mex09 is also affected as thats what my client is on. The build number for that one is 15.1.2507.12 which is the august patch level for exchange 2016.
Lets hope that rackspace pulled these servers before any major damage was done....but i wont be holding my breath

The article seemed to suggest RackSpace pulled their entire Exchange cluster down/offline.

Sad to see what was a big power player in the hosted industry....fade away into what they turned into recently. About 20 years ago they were the big grand daddy of the hosted industry. We still use them for some DNS Cpanel stuff, but no more hosting. Sad when the let JungleDisk fade away too.

I have a feeling this is not going to come back up. Client this am I'm helping has lost $1000's of dollars so far, Rackspace will be bankrupt from lawsuits guessing.

I don't see how a company with this sort of issue can survive.

Honestly if one of my MSP clients email was down for a single day they would be so far up my ass I'd be walking funny for a week.

And then I told them that I needed them to use another MSP for a couple weeks to temporarily solve the issue, then they can come back to me? I'd be done.

So question.

The local company I do SMB work for... had Rackspace email. Yea! And this crapstorm hits about a week before I was ready to migrate the email from Rackspace to M365. My primary concern was the company data stores, and getting sharepoint set up....."email could wait". Famous last words. Now this.

So I worked through a bunch of stuff with M365 support this morning. Got the company domain added. Got all the users accounts "switched" to the non .onmicrosoft.com account. Got licensing all sorted out. Created the two needed shared mailboxes and licensed those.

But now... I want to use bittitan migrationwiz to take the email from rackspace to M365 tenant (directly through microsoft.... no type of reseller environment like godaddy does, and the licenses are not bought through rackspace either). I can't find a phone number to call BitTitan to confirm how this all works, if it WILL WORK (since access to those rackspace mailboxes is down....) and make sure everything is kosher before buying all those licenses.

How do I get in contact with BitTitan. Does anyone know if this will even work with the current ongoing Rackspace outage?

I tried to contact BitTitan support through the website chat... wants me to schedule a meeting with Rachel... next availability? Two days from now. THeir email has been out since Thursday night. We don't have two days extra to wait.

The central thing I need to know... is can bittian even "work" with the rackspace exchange outage? I'm doubting it?

This customer has two or three "rackspace exchange" mailboxes... and like 15 normal rackspace mailboxes (guessing imap)
