Easy way to test VPN locally?

I want to test a VPN on the same site as the server.

The setup is a wireless router connected to the internet. Another old wireless router is at hand if that helps.

I can log in using the VPN, however I'd be able to do that anyway since once connected to the router I'm on the same network anyway.

Anyone got any simple ways of doing this that doesn't require the purchase of new kit?

I tried this but it didn't work on the 3G. However having had someone else test it for me, it works from their end, so it appears there is a problem with the 3G thing, possible port blocking or something.

I have an orange mobile dongle which is used to VPN into my own system no problem. I suspect it will differ depending on the provided. You would think in this day and age they wouldn't block IPSEC.
