Hi, I wondering if anybody knows what I can do with a customers DV7 pavilion, vista that has burning issues. It appears to burn fine, but then I try popping the disc out and putting it back in it shows a blank disc. I installed cdburnerxp and it seems to work flawlessly, says burn is complete, then nothing shows on the disc, I tried msft fixit and it found no issues. She had installed a ton of freeware players and kodec pkgs to try and fix it, I also removed some malware. I there a tool or a script that can fix this? It does read other (oem discs, etc) discs fine. thanks!

This sounds like a multi-session burn issue. Are you burning with different discs than the customer used? Ask the customer if they just started using a new brand/type of blank discs.

Its possible there is a laser/dirt issue but the session/disc type issue needs to be answered first.

I'm hoping its that, but it did the same thing to me a couple times, but not always, I was using a cdrw and finalizing it each time. Once I burned it and logged off and logged back in then the video was there but not before.

Do the burnt discs read in another computer? Have you tried ImgBurn?

yes, they mount fine in another pc, they are video files, but seeing as its sporadic I just need to find a way to verify if its a hardware or software issue, It did see the videos on the disc after I uninstalled infarecorder, ran ccleaner, uninstalled windows powershell and disabled webroot. I then rebooted and now vista is back to saying the dvd needs to be formatted. I tried booting to my knoppix and used vlcplayer but it gave errors, not sure if thats a valid test or not. I htink her registry is probably hamburger from all the players and burners shes installed/uninstalled, think a vista repair install would help?

I would stick our USB DVDRW drive on it and see how that burns and reads, or even one of our multitude of optical drives we have salvaged from laptops over the years. They are not usually difficult to remove and could possibly eliminate it being a hardware related problem.

yeah, I already tried that, and got mixed results there too! She brought a couple cd's she knew worked and they were white generic discs, I explained to her the inconsistency of bulk discs like these but she still didn't get why they worked at her work and not on her laptop, She even brought a brand new memorex dvdrw and that would not even format. I did a repair upgrade install and that seemed to help alot, however it still won't recognize memorex or verbatim discs, but pny and imation seem to work, I'm done with this! Thanks everyone.
