DV7 Laptop charging issues

OK to start off I have a HP DV7-1448dx laptop with the AMD processor, the GPU failed and the customer brought it to me, I ordered the direct replacement (or so I thought) from ebay and what I got was not it, I got the Intel Core 2 Duo version of the DV7 board instead. I bought the correct heatsink and it fits perfectly into the case but there is a problem. The battery will not charge when connected. I disassembled checked all connections and reconnected the battery to the old bare board and connected the power supply and the battery took a charge without issue. I then connected the charged battery to the laptop with the new board installed and it starts up and works flawlessly. My question is I know that there are two different pinouts to the 5 pin DC Jack plug assembly, I know that I have the wrong one, what I need is either a link the where I can buy one or a pinout from the other version so I can modify the one I have.

OK I did some more research into the issue and found some more information about the board, according to the heatsink I bought it is from a DV7t 1000, 1100, or 1200. Thank you SKM, I looked on the site with the pinout for the jack and I saved the site to favorites, will definitely be using that in the future, I dont see where you were going with the link to ebay PCX if you could clarify then I would appreciate it. But If i can find the pinout to the board or the two different pinouts to the DC jack assemblies then I could do the necessary modifications.

Or, you could send it to these guys about where you can get what you need. Heck, they may even fix it for a reasonable charge. These guys are really good and very fairly priced.

Not really a helpful suggestion, I am looking for answers so that I can repair this and know how to repair it in the future, I appreciate you weighing in but I don't think that you are allowed to imbed hyperlinks to sell services.

I'm not trying to sell you anything. I'm suggesting an alternative. What you do with it is your business.

Helpful hint: If you want to criticize honest efforts to help and then suggest that person has an ulterior motive, don't expect to be helped much.

I apologize to you both if I came off as critical, I did not mean to offend and was only trying to give a response to all posts given as I appreciate them all, As far as the heatsink post I have the correct heatsink for the board that was sent along with the original heatsink from the original failed board, my original post stated that the seller sent me the wrong board for that model and I needed to find the pinout for the DC jack assembly for the new one, I was stating that the model of the heatsink lead me to the model of the motherboard that I am looking for the information on, as for the referral, I was not trying to call you out I am honestly new to these forums and do not know how strict the rules are enforced.

Wow, I must have completely miss read what you originally posted. I thought you had said something about the battery not charging when you hooked up the wrong fan and you did not know where to get the correct fan. Not sure how I got all that, then again I have been working over 20 hours straight.

Anyways, do you have the part number of the motherboard? You should be able to take the model number, track it to its compatible laptop models, then search for the power jack from there.

Once you have this all figured out, you will be better off anyways, those boards with the AMD processors are junk.

I fully agree with your assertion about the AMD boards that is why I am pursuing the build with this one instead of simply returning it and getting the original one, the problem is the printed board model number is generic and the stickers are missing to signify the specific model, Using the heatsink as a guide to the original model and working backwards from that I have come up with the model range to be between the DV7t 1000, 1100, or 1200 also I have been able to locate the DV jack assembly for those models, my concern is that I order the part and it is identical to the one that I already have, the part is relatively inexpensive and will most likely be ordered but in the event that it is the same then I will still need the pinout.

I guess I am still a little confused as to what you need. Can repost what you need and why, as well as what you already have? What works, what does not, the exact procedure you go through to get the results you are having. Anything to clarify your situation. Pictures would be great.

Picture to follow shortly to clarify I have the laptop with an original board that is shot, it was AMD based and succumb to GPU failure, the motherboard has a presoldered DC Jack that has a 5 plug end with 4 wires going to the board, two wires are the DC in from the power supply the other two are for the LED that is next to the jack. I ordered a replacement board and got the wrong one but decided to go ahead and use it instead, the issue is that the new board does not charge the battery with the current pinout from the DC jack assembly. I do not want to randomly swap wires until it works for obvious reasons. I have read on some forums that there are two pinouts for this same model and would like to find both so I can compare them and do the proper swaps inside the plug that I have.

Maybe, I am just an idiot, but why cant you just get a battery instead? It seems that with the amount of time you spent on this issue, it would have been more worth it to swap out the battery.

Yeah the battery is the correct one for the board, ie when it is charged the notebook operates perfectly it is getting it to charge that is the problem
