I figured with a *nix appliance...don't have to worry about security as much (since you're exposing web ports)...and "up time"...don't have to worry about updates 'n reboots. Plus costs...*nix appliances are cheaper.
Since we brought in our 10 meg fiber biz pipe at the office...I may consider building a local instance and dropping the RS instance. Tiny bit of savings...not that the RS instance is costing much (think it's around 25 bucks under current load).
