Dpc Watchdog Violation Windows 8.1 HP desktop

This is a new one on me you might be familiar with this it saying shutting down computer and blue screens
Went on site today Analysed minidump files not much of a clue
updated all device drivers
uninstalled anything not necessary
scanned with Malwarebytes
He has AVG Pro that he just paid $60
I hate AVG but did not uninstall it as yet.

Later in the day he called saying it's doing the same thing I told him before I left it might be a good idea to upgrade to Win10 it came with win10 and he got me to downgrade it to win8..1 a few years ago

Tomorrow will upgrade to win10 that should fix it as it will get a new set of drivers
will uninstall AVG first

After upgrade, it was OK for a week now it is freezing up and have to reboot
maybe it did a driver update

Other than that I will do a clean install of Win 10
maybe the upgrade brought along some bad baggage from 8.1

I had one exactly like this booked in yesterday. HP Desktop - Windows 8.1 - getting BSOD with DPC Watchdog Violation

Difference is several of the minidump files point towards a Qualcomm Atheros driver as the fault. I've upgraded them and it's been ok for several hours but it was always an intermittent issue so I can't be certain it's resolved yet.

EDIT:
They have McAfee installed. No sign of AVG.

I, too, just came upon a Windows 8.1 system with a recent outbreak of DPC Watchdog errors. The error reads:
"The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000133 (0x0000000000000001, 0x0000000000001e00, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)."

The user had Malwarebytes and Norton installed, so Malwarebytes was removed. I also uninstalled a bunch of various HP junkware programs and updated some of the hardware drivers. The problem has persisted after those changes.

Could this be related to a recent Windows update?

Thanks - I'm going to try uninstalling those updates tomorrow as it has continued to BSOD even after replacing the wifi card, graphics card and updating drivers.

That also makes 3 of us finding this issue on HP computers plus your first link (bleepingcomputer) appears to be HP. Too much of a coincidence to me.

I had this a few weeks ago on a Win 8.1 HP laptop. I re-instaled 8.1 and it worked ok for a few days until a windows update. Rolled back and was ok again. The owner was looking to purchase a new W10 laptop so I just disable windows updates for the moment and the PC is still ok a 2 weeks later.
