Does Outlook sync calendar/contacts with Gmail?

I have a client with a PC and Office 2010 (I think) and Outlook is connected to his gmail account. Does Gmail sync contacts and calendar automatically, and if not is there a way to sync it?

Currently its not working, but after doing some Googling it looks like it might not do it out of the box???

No.
There are plenty of paid products that work well like sync2.
Free options are google calendar sync and Go contact sync mod.
Google calendar sync isn't supported any more but it works fine. If you can't find it ill supply a link.

Maybe not an ideal solution as your client already owns Outlook, but I had a similar request and I ended up putting them on emclient which worked fine.

They also needed shared calendars which worked out of the box.

It does if they have Google apps for business. Only the free accounts do t have this.
