I have a customer who brought me a computer with a virus on it. Removed the virus, cleaned it up. Was not in to bad of shape. Customer got it home and says that Magic Jack does not work now.

I have never used or seen a magic jack. I am positive that I didnt remove any software for it. Only thing I can see is that the virus had infected a file that made it not work for some reason. I looked on the website and didnt see anything about drivers for it.

Maybe the windows firewall is blocking it or something. I installed MSE, Windows XP SP3 Home.

Any suggestions? From what I can gather the drivers are on the usb dongle...but I could be wrong.

You are correct. The drivers are on the usb dongle.

Hope this helps, I gurggled it on the web and it has what you need.

according to this site, majicjack is TWO things.
(1) phone software by sjlabs
(2) a usb to rj11c adaptor by tjnet.com
as such it has 2 drives, one holds the mj software, and i guess the other for data.
so it's just a voip adaptor.
It can be used with other software, even skype.

I wonder why when he plugs it in it doesnt work now. I would assume it would auto install..maybe ccleaner is set to not start a certain file. I will have to remote login and see...

I use magic jack for one of my lines here in the office. It's a very cheap backup line. When you plug it in, the software required is automatically loaded or installed, if not already. It might just be that his autoplay isn't enabled. What OS is he using? At one point I had a problem with MJ on Win7.
