Displaying Kindle Fire HD 10 (7th gen) on HDTV or alternatives

So a friend of mine got his mother a Kindle Fire HD 10 (7th Generation) and figured she could hook it to the TV and watch netflix, youtube... ect on the HDTV (not a smart TV).

That apparently doesn't work anymore on the newest Kindle Fire HD 7 and 10 tablets... apparently the functionality has been removed.


Aside from rooting the Kindle Fire and coming up with a method that way (which we aren't opposed to doing, I just want a nice "here follow this guide" which I can't find after an hour or two of googling)... is there an easy way to get this Kindle Fire 10 HD displaying on an HDTV?

Otherwise, what would people recommend for someone to watch netflix and youtube (and other "content feeds" like those) who has an HDTV and access to wifi that requires in browser authentication.

I'm thinking some other type of android tablet? Any recommendations on which one? That's the simplest route if the Kindle Fire HD 10 won't work for that purpose... it's "convenient" to use and can be easily taken around the house.

If the tablet idea won't work, maybe some type of laptop? HTPC? Mini android box?

Not sure if the fire tablet can cast to a Chromecast or not.

They could also try a fire stick

I think part of it is that they want to be able to use the device in a bit of a "portable" fashion.

So take it from the TV to the bedroom and so on....

I don't think the HD 10 can cast to an HDVT "easily or well".....

I think the solution is another device at this point. Just a matter of what?
