I Bought 2 2TB Samsung drives. Installed one in a PC as a secondary drive and tried to copy data from another PC over network.

PC running Win 7x64, used unstoppable copier to copy data overnight, when i checked this morning the prog had copied 200gb and stopped without any error. I noticed the 2TB drive was nolonger showing in "my computer" (via remote desktop) so logged on locally, HDD was now showing

Started process again and watched as the speed fell from 12mb sec to 1mb sec and thought this was a joke so i pulled the 750gb disk and put it in the same PC as the 2TB disk and started again but with teracopy. Started copying at 20mb sec but soon fell to 500k sec.

thought something doesn't seem right so i swapped the 2TB for the 2nd 2TB, started again with teracopy and after copying 20mb, the HDD dissapeared out of device manager until i rebooted the PC.

Wondering if the disks are screwed as they were delivered in minimal packaging by the post office and posted through my door, 2 foot drop onto wooden floor.

Moved to another PC and installed Win 7x64 on the 2TB drive and again trying to copy data to 2nd partition, copied 200gb again and the PC has appeared to have crashed.

Ouch!!!

I guess I would test those HDs before trying to use them any further. Poor packaging may lead to RMA's in the end. =S

Happens on 2 different PCs, one AMD/Asrock and one HP/Intel.

Disks are going back to amazon and i'll be buying the next ones over the counter at a PC shop, hopefully they understand how to handle hard drives?

a quick HDD diagnostics tool will reveal the problem. I think the drives are DOA as you have already suspected.

Some internet vendors are more careful and give extra extra padding in oversized box. Your experience with amazon may involve some community seller who uses amazon's platform but not really amazon itself. The drive is probably an OEM bare drive.

I don't know about UK, in US I almost always buy from Microcenter for both retail hdd kits and OEM bares. Prices are almost the same.
