DHCP not working after Netgear NIC removal

I have run into this problem a few times recently, even on new builds:

On a machine running Windows XP, if you install a Netgear wireless NIC, USB or PCI, install driver and utility and then uninstall it, the computer loses DHCP functionality.

In my case, I removed the Netgear NICs for a variety of reasons, mainly poor performance, and installed D-Link NICs in their place. Unless I manually assign an IP, nothing works.

I know it's not the router because the only affected computers are those that have had Netgear software installed at some point.

Anyone else run into this problem, and did you manage to fix it?

Do you do a reboot afterwards? It may be the ip address/dhcp binding to the protocol stack.

Make sure you have completly removed the netgear config software, including reactivating all windows based services. Not sure if there is an uninstaller for this or not, but manual is easy enough

All Netgear software is gone, obvious Windows services like DHCP and WZConfig all started.

have you tried the computer with a hardwired connection? If dhcp works there i would try repairing or reinstalling the drivers for the wireless card. Will be interested to hear what the issue turns out to be.
