Device Manager Error - this device cannot start (code 10)

I have a Clients PC that I'm working on. I Formatted and Re-Installed the OS. The PC has a 56K Dial-Modem, (Smartlink 5800). After Installing the Driver, theres a small yellow exclamation mark but it shows device name (Smartlink Modem), when checking the properties of the device it and checking the device status it has the following error:

this device cannot start (code 10)

Any suggestion on how to resolve this error with be appreciated.

1st try a different driver if you can find one that might work (use everest to find more details on the hardware)
or it could be due to a faulty modem. I see this a lot with wireless cards and its usually one of the two, but ya mess around with drivers as much as you can 1st

Check the version or revision on the device. since sometimes a sm280a requires a different driver than a sm280b

I have to co-sign with whats been said. Any problems with a driver and I check the current version vs. whats available on the company website.

Thanks for the suggestions, I found an updated version of the driver and it's working fine now.
