Desktop choice?

I don't like dealing with customers who are cheap. They are almost always a pain to deal with. Especially if something breaks down. Oh but wait that's what you asked for....just saying:D

I have to respectfully disagree. The OP was quite specific they use nothing but web apps. For their purposes the Pro version buys them absolutely nothing that they NEED or will USE. Why give Bill Gates even more money than he already has?

Seriously, the bits are the same between the 2 versions. Sure, M$ has purposely rendered parts of the Home version more inaccessible, but there are plenty of fixes available such as the use of a local NAS if they ever need that capability.

For the same reason I don't put *nix on any of my end user's computers (with very rare exceptions). Sure, it's a better, more stable os, but its total crap for business productivity (because of the learning curve and lack of familiarity) and I would spend a lot of time customizing it for their needs. Same with home vs pro. I know of many small businesses that bought home licenses based on what they thought their needs were (some of them bought from me because I thought I would just get them what they asked for), who pretty quickly wanted to do things that home just wasn't meant for.

Why would I do the disservice to my customer of not offering my best advice? That's most of what they pay me for. I don't mean to sound superior or egotistical, but our expertise is what the customer is buying in the hopes that we can make their businesses run as smoothly as possible, especially when they don't entirely know what that means or how to accomplish it.

+1

Metanis, I see where you are coming from and I am sure others do too but like mentioned previously what if he wants to expand? This is being run from a business and it's better to do it the right way. The Dell Business Outlets sell the Win 7 Pro. Get those and call it a day.

if you build a custom PC, you must provide a warranty/customer support for the equipment whereas if you order from Lenovo, they call their customer service and deal issues with them.

Believe me, i rather order a refurbish pc instead of custom building it. I could send it out to get it replaced without of the hassle of opening it up and finding the problem.

That's just me, not sure if anyone disagrees :)

Building is great, but when you start looking at the profit vs setting them up on a prebuilt vs a byo(build your own), you can do almost as well on the prebuilt. Plus they are all standardized if you get the same types. I'll build for myself and for gamers, but for people who are being cheap, tell them get a dell. You'll have less issues most likely, and they will feel good about it because they know the name, sure one you build may have better options and parts, but they don't always perceive that, and may perceive you are building because you are being cheap, not saying anyone is, but that might be how a client thinks.

I dont know why no one has pointed out to the OP that Windows Home Premium is not suitable for a business environment and a violation of the Microsoft EULA. Not a big deal, but small companies like insurances offices are increasingly becoming targets of the Business Software Alliance and disgruntled former employees who are tempted by the 'reward'.

+1 Lenovo

if I get a failed system on our bench - IT's a Dell. HP's I just straight up replace with Lenovo.

My junk pile is filled with Thinkpads that aren't broken just old (T60's do run lubuntu / xubuntu really well :D:D:D:D:D:D:D)
