Hi there Nibblers,

I am having a go at designing my logo for my business I am starting,

GartonTech

So I have found a font I like (It's not a "graphic" logo), and made a quick mockup...

So i have received one piece of advice (displayed in Drawing2)

So any positive, improvement or even new ideas! (not your job though :D ) would be great!

Remember that the logo will be used as advertising online, print media, t-shirts and transport... Not that you don't know :)

Absolutely awful. I can't read it and I know what it says. :) Honestly you should get one of these logo designer websites where designers make their own submission and you pay the winner. Think further down the line when you have a vehicle and people get a brief moment to see your logo as you drive by. It's worth paying to get something you want long term. You don't want to be changing it later on.

There are a lot of threads here on logo design. Perhaps some reading might get you started

48hours logo is a popular choice ...

it stinks. but a good try. the same thing happened to me. i realized design is not my thing and had someone else design it. best decision i ever made.

good life

yea... have to agree with the others. Its not the worst logo to come through here...but really not good. I would try 48 hour logo. You'll get plenty of quality submissions through them and you'll be happily surprised with their speediness.

I agree with the opinions expressed above - not a good design. We used 99designs to have our logo designed. It was a great experience and we got tons of really good designs. If you are serious about your business, it pays to invest in your brand and image up front. Don't skimp on your logo. It is one of the first impressions people have of your business.

The revision makes a huge difference. I don't believe it to be horrible. It's a great start. I bet you could find someone to take this idea and turn it into something awesome. Don't get discouraged by negativity... you have a great first start. You know the kind of look you want and that is often the most stressful part of logo design.

I couldnt think of a way to save it. Too bad you aren't a Tree Service.

Garton Tree and turn that big T into a tree with some greenery on top maybe a lil lumberjack bottom left...sorry going off topic.

Thanks for your response!

It was a long shot that it was perfect but I would rather check and re-do it before putting it on paperwork and all that...

I am not to keen on 99designs, etc. because I would rather sit with someone and design it with them...? does that make sense?

What about finding a local designer? Or a design student at school....?

Thats what I think too...now :P

Good idea, but I not a tree-lopper yet ;)

I would like to see if anyone around here has had a design done online...Please post :)

Thanks,
Thomas

(this is Amanda on DocGreen's account... cause we're cool that way)

ThomasM, getting someone from a local college or university is an excellent idea! They get something for their portfolio, you get a logo. Win-win. You can also see about doing trade work... that is what we did for our logo.

Again, your current design is a great jumping off point! Don't be discouraged! :)

I get your concern but its doable

I have outsourced a bit of graphic design over the years

My take on it is to research what you like the look of - the design sites are also great for this because there's a huge body of work on them already - and then provide visual examples of what you want. Its then just a matter of providing information to support the examples.

- I like this colour ()example), I want this font (example), I want this shape (example) , and this image or something similar, etc etc.

Any savvy designer will be able to work from that. as long as your bid for the project is above average you will get plenty of approaches, from which its just a matter of drilling down on what you want and providing instructions as they work.

- yep great but make the naked lady smaller
- good but you misspelt 'felony misunderstanding' in the tag line
- please remove the image of your mother
- ... you get the idea

Not hard to do, as long as you work with them as they go. No different from sitting down next to someone if you manage it properly.

Just my 5c

I personally think your logo would not reach a broad spectrum of customers. It is not easily readable. You have to think about how the logo would be used in the future and what first impressions it would leave for future clients, i.e., banners, t-shirts, flyers, business cards. I really like when I see more information and less of a logo on marketing items. Just my 2 cents.
