Dell XPS problem

I have a computer that won't turn on unless it is unplugged and plugged in again. The power light just flashes yellow and does not start POST. Any ideas?

That sounds like an problem we had on a bunch of Dells where I worked a while back.. the problem was the capacitors.. to identify the problem, we would crack the case and look at the caps. The tops looked like they had "popped" up.. Dell replaced the mother board and power supplies on just about every one of those 100 machines.

Yup, I worked for a large national corporation who only ordered dells, we would order hundreds of desktops and laptops quarterly and we would get batches with major faults in them. Although new pc they usually will fix/replace it for you but after so long they wont unless you bought the extended warranty luckily our company always bought the longest warranty.

That is the thing with any of the mjor computer manufactures, GATEWAY, HP, DELL they mass produce their machines which are usually built proprietary to an extent and they always have problems.

I prefer building my own custom pc's knowing that the parts are not mass produced on an assembly line like those places and will last a long time. I have built pc's in the past that I game on and have lasted over 6 years still playing the new games. If done right a custom built pc will far outlast and perform any DELL, HP etc. and you can build them a lot of the times cheaper, except the few budget pc's they sell for like 3 to 4 hundred which I would stray far far far away from. Those things always go bad within 6 months to a year and if you don't have your receipt good luck getting any sort of help. I have a lot of customers who bought those low priced pc's, they seem nice spec wise but quality under the hood???eh yucky very nasty. I swear they even build them that way on purpose so they will fail and force you to buy a new pc, although that seems dumb because if I had one then I would never buy from them again. but who knows what they think.

I'm sure it's a motherboard problem and I'm going to replace it but the power supply has both a 20 pin AND a 24 pin connector to the MB. I've never seen that before, anyone know if I can just replace it with a normal ATX MB?
