Workstation worked earlier in the day, turned it off and moved it to a new location. Turn it on see log on screen however keyboard and mouse do not control the computer (they are recognized in the bios as the lights are on for laser mouse and keyboard, only num lock lights are on no other lights work).

Desktop does not have room for PS/2 style keyboard and mouse.

Started in safe mode (bios sees keyboard) I can scroll through the safe mode options, and I did last known good that didn't help.

Can't control it in safe mode either. I can get into bios and moved around, reset defaults, yada, yada, yada, but no keyboard or mouse control.

What is up with that???
tried other usb keyboards.

Try deleting the USB root hubs in device manager and reboot so they will reinstall automatically

I don't have a way of testing right now but I think Konboot May even bypass ctrl-alt-del maybe someone else can answer that. What about using the front USB port if it has them. Is this PC on a domain? Any remote access software on there or maybe RDP in?

If you can get into BIOS and move around, try and boot a live CD (Linux).

Maybe this is something you've already done? Check inside that case the USB connectors are all securely attached or that some other cable/connector/card is loose and causing a communication problem between the USB and motherboard.

Yeah, there are front USB and they don't work either.. They are on a completely different channel.

YES! Boot Cd works fine... is there a restore system in ultimate boot CD...

Ok,

So if you can run a live cd and your keyboard/mouse works, it probably isn't a hardware issue. Can you boot to safe mode with command prompt? If you can get into a command line, you may be able to do a manual restore.

Any chance that Remote Desktop is turned on? Or any other remote software that you could use to access the system?
YES! Remote desktop is turned on, and I found the IP address when I used advanced IP Scanner, however RDP isnt working, and funny enough I can't ping the address the the IP scanner says it is..

I have restored the registry and performed a system restore though Ultimate boot cd and it still does not work. I ordered a serial to ps/2 adapter and hope that just maybe that may work..

I am thinking this is a futile attempt to continue working on this as I dont think there is a repair for this. Last ditch effort is to try a windows xp restore but that will be saved for the end..

I'm facing the same issue (not recognizing any USB keyboard) with an old XP computer someone just gave me. I realize you can only get so far in boot. Can you see the system time/date?

I have always used the computers name on the network when connecting via RDP. If the computer isn't showing up on your network then that is an issue also I would think.

No, can't see date or time due to the fact it just goes to the ctrl-alt-del..
System bios date time is correct.
