Hey all!

I was having a problem with a dell studio 1536 wondering if anyone has encountered this. Customer brought there computer in for crashes due to overheating.

Cleaned out the dust and reapplied cool master thermal compound.

Worked fine no overheating when it left the shop

30 min latter customer brought it back because it would not turn on

we have an issue that the computer will not turn on and the volume up and mute button are blinking and the volume down button is steadly on

Thank you in advance for your input

Since this laptop was disassembled you might want to disassemble it again, reconnect all cables, and check for any shorts. Loose screws, pinched wires or cables etc. Did you or your tech use ESD protection during the repair?

Well, considering all the diagnostics you have done so far I would suggest nothing.

What chipset is the laptop using? I know the laptops that use the nVidia chipset tend to overheat and cause this type of problem.

Motherboard damaged! Customers have a bad habit of not seeking help as soon as they notice the laptop overheating, it's a bit like putting off seeing the doctor, something that could have been resolved earlier with a clean out of the vents, heatsink/fan combo, unfortunately they have left it to long.
