Anyone ever taken a server machine and turned it into a stand alone xp machine? Having a bugger of a time sifting through all the device drivers.

Sometime there are reasons to do this - and device drivers are the hardest part.

If XP drivers aren't published, sometimes the Server 2003 driver will work on XP. (I have used XP only drivers on Server 2003 before). You'll need to test thoroughly though.

A tad more info...

Business switched all machines out to run XP, since server machine had no REAL support and new POS software ran on XP alone. Now what to do with an expensive machine collecting dust. Lets turn it into an online catalog listing of all available products and let the (arrggghh!) general public look for themselves! Needless to say, I think I can load 2k first and then massage everything once I get an "Upgrade" version of XP? Think its worth the effort?

It depends on the specs of the machine. If it had 2k3 originally and that's what it's designed for, I would keep it at 2k3. You can still do anything you want that you would do with XP and a whole lot more. Maybe even give it a couple of new jobs.

Thats What I thought

Yeah, I contacted them and told the customer, that I could make it run xp, but that means a motherboard, they seem to be happy that is 2k, and everything so far is running smoothly, I think I'll bill them now. Thanks for the info though.
