dell power button flashing yellow?

Ok had a dekstop dropped off...Dell Optiplex G270.....guy said he was getting a blue screen saying to run chkdsk /f......brought it to me...and I hooked it up...and went to try to turn it on and nothing..soon as I connect the power cord the light in the front flashes yellow....so I opened the case up...the board still has a light lit up on it.....but nothing....its dead.....believe its a power supply issue.......what do you guys think?

If the power supply tests good it could be the motherboard, or I've heard USB ports can do that sometimes as well.

If you had googled the symptoms you would have found many probable causes. Bad caps in the PSU and/or on the MB being the most probable. Not to be too stern, but googling the symptoms should be the first thing you do if you are unfamiliar with a problem.

3 things to do for starters:
Swap a known good PSU in there. Also check the voltage of the CMOS battery (should be around 3 V). After 3 minutes, reinsert it. Could be just a corrupted BIOS.
Try booting with PC Check 6.5 (off Hiren's Boot CD). Test away. Boot with an Ubuntu LIVE CD to further test the hardware.

Bad Motherboard

It is a GX270 and the capacitors near the CPU are shot. Open case and look at them. They will be bulged and most likely leaking.

Had a client with the same thing not to long ago. She just got a new computer. I did find that replacement boards are about $100 if you send them the bad ones. Google will help you find refurbished ones.

This is a known issue for GX270's

Sounds like a bad PSU or maybe a bad motherboard.
What about the diagnostic lights on the back?
Test the PSU.
Look on the motherboard for swelled or leaking caps.
Remove and then reinstall RAM and any cards

These Dell Optiplex G270's look like they are very compact. Could the MB's be failing because everything is so cramped and then it gets hot in there, or are the PSU's too cheap?

GX270's came in tower, desktop and compact form factor. The capacitors on these blow all the time. A simple inspection of the caps is all that is needed to get to the root cause of this issue.

My client had a tower form factor and traded to a laptop. Think she really wanted an excuse to get a new one. Just wanted someone professional to 2nd the opinion.
