Dell P24T Windows Password Problem

Hi everyone,

This one has stumped me - a brick wall.

This is a new generation (chrome book-like) Dell 10" notebook that does not use a physical hard drive and does not have a DVD drive..

The problem is that the owner forgot the password, which is usually and easy thing to resolve, until I met this machine.

I have tried everything and nothing works - pcunlocker via USB drive, pcunlocker via DVD, Hiren's via dvd/usb, Unbuntu via both media....nothing.

I even tried to reinstall the whole system, but that is not possible either since Dell will not allow you to download the recovery image unless you are actually on the machine (past the login screen).

Oh yeah - the problem with the usb/dvd methods I mentioned above is that the machine BSOD's with a acpi.sys error.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Download an ISO from MS?

Thanks for the replies and good suggestions/advice. It is appreciated.

The acpi.sys problem stems from the Windows PE system being used by utilities such as pcunlocker and what-not.

In the case of hirens, it is using some type of thin linux and has the same problem.

My guess is that these new machines architecture rely on the Windows CE model - some hardware specific dependency of some sort, which is bad design but doesn't solve my problem, so....

And yes, the thing costs less than $200 so there is the feasibility factor - except that this customer is also a friend.

About turning off the acpi in bios: I can get to the bios, but turning off acpi is not a listed option.

Man, this is crazy. People are going to forget their passwords and in this case, makes the little notebook disposable.

Again, thanks for all the help. I will update you if I find a solution.
