Has anyone experienced an "Intel Anti-theft System lock due to: Platform attack......" It comes up immediately after the Dell splash screen? Purchased 2 used Mobos off of Ebay (don't tell me - I know) and both are doing the same thing.

From our research it is due to a McAfee program that is no longer supported by McAfee.

TIA

Yeah, there's a reason why this stuff can only be addressed by the OEM's. Have you punched the serial number at Dell's web site to get the part number and then see if you can order it from them?

No availability - there are more on E-Bay - I ordered one from another vendor - hopefully it will be from a different lot. I hate doing it this was but not much choice being 8 years old (the computer that is):p. He's one of our 'gooder' customers.

This particular computer and customer are unique. The computer was given to him by his father as a college graduation present. It is an i5 so it is totally adequate for his uses. He will be in it for only about $150 total repair cost.

On a side note we have a regular source of Dell laptops for $25 each ranging from i3 - i7. These are from hospitals, governments and some colleges. We install SSDs and put on Win 10 Pro w/licenses (we are a MS refurbisher). We have about $90 in them and sell them from $199-349 all week long.

All most users need are I5's :p

We had one of these in this week too.

Same reason for the lock: platform attack.
This one was locked by McAfee and they won’t help.
They haven’t supported the system for over two years apparently.
We have pretty good consumer protection laws here in New Zealand so we told the customer to take it back to where they bought it from and complain.

Sometimes customers buy WAY too much power in their systems - do you really need 12GB Ram, i7 and 4 TB SSD to run Quickbooks?

Uh yea! I spec nothing less than 8gb of ram and an SSD for all business computers. If ram wasn't so expensive right now I would spec out 16gb for people using Quickbooks and give them room to grow for the future. We sold many with 12gb/16gb of ram and even 32gb back in the day when ram was cheap (of course most of that is because the boss believes more ram == fasterrrrrrrr). Typically quote an i5.

Latest machine working on right now is a Thinkcentre M710 with an i7-7700, 16gb ram, and 250gb Samsung nvme ssd. Will be replacing the business managers computer at a local union. Will be running Quickbooks on it along with everything else.

The only thing outlandish with your example is the 4TB SSD. :)

I was being facetious about 4 TB SSD.;)
