Dell Latitude e4200 Issue

Here is the issue:

I had the computer, and all of the sudden it completely froze. Booting back in normal mode will cause it to blue screen, Page_Fault_In_Nonpaged_Area 0x00000050. Everything I've done thus far was done exclusively in Safe Mode.

Initally, I noticed that the computer was not connected to the network. There were no Network Adapters (LIAR!). Going through the Device Manager, I noticed there were about 20 network devices with goofy names. Virus I predicted.

Ran Malwarebytes, came clean.
Ran SuperAntispyware, clean
Ran Kaspersky TDSS Killer, clean
Ran MBAR, clean

SFC /scannow. Clean.
Chkdsk /f /r. Good.

In Devices and Printers, I ran troubleshoot on the computer (*sigh*), but it actually removed all but 3 of the irrevalent Network Devices. Progress! I think....

Right now I'm running Combofix, which, perhaps I should've done first. Malwarebytes is always my go to first.

Other pieces of information:

Last Known Good Configuration doesn't completely load Windows (Black Background with active mouse cursor)
CCleaner cleaned up a bunch of junk (4GB or crap and 550+reg items)
Reseated memory, no good
CrystalDiskInfo said the Drive was good.

Sounds like you have had or do have a rootkit. Maybe just plain old corrupted Windows install. See how it runs on a live Linux disk. Which is actually a good memory test in itself. Also run memtest or swap RAM out.

I don't think RAM would cause all those issues though. Some yes, but not installing new phony network devices. That was either caused by the user or some sort of malware. BSOD page fault cod be bad RAM or a bad motherboard component. I guess if you were able to use safe mode it kind of rules out bad MB, but not completely.

My final diagnosis based on the information provided, is a corrupted Windows Install.
 
I thought Kaspersky TDSS Killer was the choice for Rootkits... I might be wrong on this, or perhaps I should use a different scanner...
 
It could also be caused by VRAM. Latitude probably has integrated video and shared RAM. This BSOD is normally cause by a RAM type issue.

Again, with you booting in to safe mode and using it I suspect corrupted Windows Install.
 
My vote is boot from Kaspersky Rescue Disk. Run updates. If it runs then the LAN port is working. Then you run a full scan.

I always use KAV Rescue disk first. I have the updates local on my LAN. I update them from the official server everyday. Of course I don't use a disk....I boot my KAV over the LAN. :D

Yes YES is a go to for rootkits, but it isn't a fully featured scanner. Neither is MBAM, Super AAntspuware or any of them really. They are specific to the type of malware they bust. MBAM is the closest to a fully featured AV. TDSS was not meant to be a replacement for a full AV scan. More like an addendum or if you knew you had a specific problem.
 
I should've mentioned that the Wired and Wireless NIC's are working. Basically uninstalling and scanning for new hardware resolved that.
 
Alright I've made significant progress.

Running Combofix, it ran it's scans and booted into Normal Mode (Fingers Crossed), and it did not Blue Screen! Serious Progress!

Then, onto the network drivers, which is full of lies. I ran across this link http://oyam.ca/blog/2011/11/windows-miniports.html

Basically, it was referencing 1 of the bad network drivers, but it applied for all. Basically, update the drivers to Microsoft MAC Bridge Miniport. Following that, it's an easy uninstall. I did that for all of them. Then, scanned for Hardware Changes, and 3 bluetooth devices. Simply Checking for Driver Updates gave them the correct drivers.

Running Sophos Anti-Rootkit now, but it didn't come with anything. (Should I use others?)

Now onwards to rebuilding his Mail File, which was the original symptom.
 
Have you checked the drive with Crystal Disk Info? (Edit: Reread your OP and saw that you did). This just sounds too funky. Any torrent clients on the system?

I've seen more than a few reports of RAM passing memtest but being bad all the same. Is it matched RAM?

The Ram is different. The Motherboard has 1 GB Soldered on, and a 4GB Stick (So, it has 5 GB as odd as that sounds). I did pull the 4GB Stick and it booted into Normal Mode, but after that, it BSOD'd with the exact same error.

The e4200 uses a proprietary SSD. It's a 128 GB SSD (I believe by Samsung).
 
Check with Dell to see if there are any firmware updates for the SSD, (among others). Googling e4200 corruption I found a lengthy thread that went on well past the pointer from the search results with a lot of talk about SSD upgrades after talk about Dell updates. So you may need to check firmware updates for the SSD, chipset updates and BIOS updates. Didn't have time to take in all of it, sorry.

Thanks for your help. The BIOS is about 5 revisions old, so I'll do that in a bit.

Didn't check SSD nor Chipset, I might look into those.
 
Kind of off topic, but does anyone use the Latitude e4200.

I think it is one of my favorite laptop due to the weight being 2.2 lbs.
 
Have clients with dozens of them....sold a ton of 'em a couple of years ago
Yes there are some BIOS updates, and an Intel drive controller driver update....helps with a "freezing" issue with the SSD. Correct...it's a Samsung SSD in there. Have had a handful of end users complaining of "freezing". The BIOS update helped some of them. Had a few system boards replaced on a few also.

A very lightweight laptop, not the strongest hinges on them....had a few break. Those silver plastic covers over the base of the hinges also broke a lot...A LOT.

Generally I love Latitudes..and have very good luck with them, but I gotta say...the reliability of those little ultra portable e4200 models wasn't the best.
