I have a issue with Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2. The computer has been handed down to another person in the family and I was called in to swap out Owner info on the computer. So I did, well after doing so I was asked to install a couple of printers for the new owner of the computer. No big deal right, of course not. No when I try to install the printers it is giving me a generic error with "Access Denied" it is a local connection to the printer. Everything else seems to be working fine. I ran scans after scans. I taken ownership of everything I can imagine. Is there an ongoing issue when someone tries to change the computer name or delete the original computer administrator?

yes you cant do it without the security code given to you by dell professionals to change the ownership!

so contact immediately to dell service center!

thank you!

When going into properties and selecting the security tab it shows the user with full control of the files.

Am I missing something else?

Would it be Dell or Microsoft I need to contact?

Try this?

I had a similar situation....I found this site with these instructions and massaged them to work for local printer (Dell Vista 1530 with Dell 1100 Laser Printer):

http://www.pchell.com/support/printeraccessdenied.shtml

INSTRUCTIONS

Go into Control Panel

Underneath the Hardware and Sound category, click on Printer

Click on Add a printer from the top menu

Click on Add a Local Printer

Choose Create a New Port with type of port remaining Local Port, then click Next

In the Port Name box type the path to the printer you wish to connect to and Click Ok

Ex. \\mycomputer\myprinter

If the computer you wish to connect to is named Bob and the printer is called HP then the path would be \\Bob\HP

In the Install Printer Driver screen, select your printer from the list or choose Have Disk and find the location of the printer drivers on the computer then click Next and then click Finish.

You should now see the printer installed in the Printers window.
Right-click on the printer and click Properties

On the General tab, click Print Test Page to test the printer.

GOOD LUCK!

I would use a static IP on the printer and use the IP rather then the host name myself.

Solved!!!

Sorry I didn't follow up on my own thread, but what I ended up doing was burning the Vista Recovery Cd from this website article and formatted the hard drive and re-installed Vista. Everything is great now with the new owners username and his printers work great. LOL
