I'm looking for companies that do installations for Dell, HP or IBM. Basically the companies that send the workers out to do the onsite installations for the big business lease sales - if you understand what I mean. I had a tough time finding any on the internet. I know BMC solutions does this for Dell but would love to know of others and those for HP & IBM.

Can anyone help out? These companies would probably hire out for contract jobs for each lease contract but also employ some management employees for each lease.

I have worked on several deployments for a couple of companies. While the techs are usually hired locally, the team lead and project manager work for the company as w-2. I have not heard of a deployment where they contract out the management of a project. Just thought you should know.

That is what I mean. They send an employee to do the contract "jobs"/installations and hire the techs locally as actual CONTRACT employees. I'm looking for the name of the companies that send the employees to supervise the techs.

It's been a long time since I worked for any of these companies, I got out of it because they want you to drive so far away at a moments notice for very little income after expenses.

The pricing for that type of work has dropped a huge amount over the years. Now a days I see them for as low as 15/hour. That is pay for a 1099. Usually no travel reimbursement.

That being said I'm sure if you got into a supervisor position the rates may be better but not by much. The first ones I did were around $55/hr as team leader and the rest would be around $35-40/hr - that was around 4 years ago. The highest I have seen recently was around $25/hour for being a grunt.

Companies - Prism Point Technologies (PPT), Agilysys, Pomeroy, are three that I have worked with.

Out of the online platforms those calls mostly show up on OnForce, Field Nation, and Field Solutions.

The thing you need to be careful about who you are working for and their history. And don't let yourself get to far in in terms of A/R. I got burned by PPT several years ago. Started work with them doing Gateway extended warranty repairs. When it got up to some $350 or so I told them I needed to get paid before I did any more work. Never saw a penny. Just so happened that not long I started one of their big customers, the Gateway warranty work, stiffed PPT to the tune of some $750k. A lot of techs got burned but they, PPT, are still around.

Thanks for the name of the companies! What you describe for the contract workers making $15 or so an hour is about what I experienced as well. I know that I was the lead technician on a few jobs and I made no more than I did than on other jobs but I had all the responsibility - not really fair.

I'm wondering if anyone knows how these deployments work. I've been on jobs that are scheduled to last 4 weeks and the on-site supervisor was terrible. I took over the task b/c I couldn't stand the chaos of his supervision and got the job done in 1/2 the time. The supervisor said that this was awesome b/c he got paid the same no matter how long it took so he got a 2 week vacation after the job was complete. I'd love to find out how the install companies get paid and if doing them more efficiently is better or worse for them..
