Decent affordable Laptop Motherboard repair facility?

I'm having an interesting time with a 'refurbished' motherboard I purchased from 'Laptopsforless.com' I'm beginning to think that this vendor might haunt me for a while. Board came in and doesn't work. Video works, but it won't boot any device, and just gets in a reboot loop... Sent it back, 4 days in the mail, 7-10 days for their testing, then who know what or when I will get it back.

I've got another HP DV9000 that needs repaired, and it's the video as well. I don't want to use this company. Nothing about it feels good to me at this point. Can you recommend a decent company to deal with for replacement laptop motherboards? Affordable that is... HP wants over $300 for one...

Hi Greg, it all depends on where you are in the world.

Re the DV9000, I would hazard a guess that this requires a reball / reflow. If this is the case, you would be better telling your client that they should start saving for a new laptop. The amount of DV series laptops we have dealt with is unreal.

Yes they can be repaired, but it is usually just a quick fix. They will go again, only time will tell as to when.

I get a lot of DV series laptops too. It is always either the video overheating, or the cpu overheating. Knowing the potential failure of a reflow, I just tell them it's it isn't cost effective to repair. I personally don't know how to do a reflow, but if I wanted to do one I'm sure I could send it to someone here on TN for a fee. But I don't really want to stand behind something I can't guarantee.

I'm in Idaho.

But I'm inclined to agree. I don't even pretend to do flow solder repair, and my experience with the HP DV series so far is to just say "No Thank You". It's a shame because when they are working, they were a decent looking and working machine. Spendy at the time too.

These series laptops have been the cause of many headaches, when clients bring them in i simply inform them of the faults and to save for a new machine.

we have dealt with them in the past before, it was 50/50 with their boards. the dv series really was just a headache
