Data Recovery Quick Question Please...

Trying to do data recovery for customer after he did Compaq System Recovery SELF FIX for virus...

Looking for file extension and/or location for database files used by Retail Boss POS program??

The program he was using was "Retail Boss" POS program by Palmer products out of Texas. Their tech support would NOT help as he had not purchased an update in several years.

Have brought back file structure using "Getdataback" 3.21, but cannot find these files. This program usually works...
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Does Retail Boss have any support/help documentation on the installation media or in any of the program folders...or on their website? Usually these types of programs will have backup capabilities that will backup the necessary database files. These should be referenced in the documentation.

Yeah we went thru the docs with no luck. Seems as though we would need the original version 2004 (not supported anymore according to provider) installed and also good file structure.
Using Get Data Back usually works wonders, but not in the case of databases as this..

The customer has decided explore more user friendly programs for future. After all he only does lawn care anyhow.

That doesn't sound like GDB failing as such.

try demo install

File types sometimes don't change for programs. Try demo install of newer or oldest version you can download. Then try an export or import from it to see the file types/locations.

Along the same lines as layoric - could you install the app again on a different machine but monitor its installation. I think its revo that allows for this? You should then have a list of files that were created as part of the installation and may give you an idea of the logfiles type and location.

As for get data back - I had an hdd of game iso's (all legal, I used alcohol 120% to create them) that got corrupted in moving from one raid card to another. Get data back was the only software that was able to recover them but it did something funny to the iso's themselves. They still had all the data but would no longer work in alcohol itself. Saying that I have used GDB on a number of other drives with great success with no file corruption. However...given that the files you are looking for are databases, you might be experiencing something similar.
