So i've heard that most Tech's and such shouldn't attempt to recover data and that most should be sent to a *professional*. (and attempting to recover the data, has somehow made the Situation Worse.
Is this true?
Are people just using cheap/bad methods of recovering the data?
Every data recovery pro started out not knowing. As long as you follow best practices and know when to stop if it is above what you feel comfortable with and you are okay with the consequences of making things worse, I would say it is okay to investigate and maybe proceed with some recoveries. It needs to be taken very seriously
If its likely that i can recover data using data recovery software i will make a clone and give it a go. If the HDD is making any noise or seems to be a hardware problem i wont touch it and recommend passing to the lab i work with.
