I had a tech call me and asked me a question which I don't the answer to but it seems it is good to know.

App is getmydataback

Client re-installed his "own" OS and wiped his data.
The client used getmydataback and restored his own files it to the "same location where they were at before the reinstall".
The data seems to be corrupted and it will not open or it opens but is garbage text.

What would your experience tell you that the next step should be to recover the data?

If it was written over which is why it's garbled then forget about it. Supposedly an outfit like the fbi crime lab can find data multiple layers deep but even if she paid drivesavers a few grand to try, I doubt they'd succeed.

Experience tells me that it is extremely time consuming with little chance of any sort of meaningful recovery. How many times have they run getmydataback?
