Data Recovery Pricing

It's a little vague I think. I bought a licence and use it on one machine in my workshop. I have recovered some data from a drive slaved to that machine. Does that mean I'm infringing the copyright?

From the Runtime site faqs

Q. What is the difference between a regular and a technician's license?

A. A regular license can be used to recover data from computers owned or controlled by the licensee. Only the licensee can use the software. The software must be installed on only one computer at any given time. A technician's license can be used for all purposes of a regular license. In addition it can be used to perform commercial data recovery services on computers not owned or controlled by the licensee. Only the licensed technician can use the software. The software must be installed on only one computer at any given time.

Yep.. I read it exactly how martyn has. I have get data back for ntfs installed on only the one machine (which is only used for data recovery work). I have a normal license and have for many years. From memory, the license cost was in the region of £40. Now i'm in the same boat.. could I be infringing on copyright?

I ran a few programs on his card, one of which took over 24hrs and they all recovered nothing. My question is how would you have billed this customer?
I say you should bill them nothing. Data recovery is way more complex than GetDataBack and R-Studio. The forensic places have high end $10,000 hardware and techs who really have a deep knowledge about recovering data.

Hi:

I know I am new here but I couldn't resist this thread since this is what we specialize in, data recovery.

I would say I have to agree with RegEdit:

Data recovery is way more complex than GetDataBack and R-Studio. The forensic places have high end $10,000 hardware and techs who really have a deep knowledge about recovering data.

We are one of those firms BUT yet we are so different from them. We charge a maximum of 200 for vairous levels of recovery (up to what we term level 4 recovery) and what makes us so unique is the fact that we do it all online. No data no charge, not even an evaluation charge.

We are also interested in strategic partnerships with those who lack the resources to facilitate data recoveries (outsourcing our services)so please do not hesitate to contact us. You will more than be able to compete with the "big boys" if you work with us on this.
