what do you guys use for keeping track of customers, and also to do your book keeping? I am not sure if I want to go with quickbooks or not and so I thought I would ask for alternate suggestions

Im using simple invoices on my webserver I run. Its pretty good for a small operation. Im a one man show. Its a bit rough around the edges but is free.

Iam looking for something else for bookkeeping though. I looked at quickbooks and seems you have to be an accountant to run it. "Damn it Jim! Im a tech not an accountant!" :D

I second that! I am also a one man operation.

We're building a database from scratch, for many reasons and purposes, including inventory, sales, repair tickets, time for labor, customers, etc. I can't say much more at this point because we're still at the design phase.

Since we rely almost solely on donated gear, and we often get (literal) truckloads at a time, trying to keep a handle on what is currently stocked can be a real challenge for my department. We've got to have a quick, concise way of knowing exactly what we have on hand, and this helps both CIT and accounting (liabilities, assets, all that accounting jazz) keep the books straight. Pretty vital information for a non-profit, I'm told. :D

I use a bound, columnar paper pad for bookkeeping.

I have been using quickbooks online for my accounting....mainly just general ledger and accounts payable (writing of checks, etc). I use a point of sale system called "Atrex" that handles all of my sales quote-orders-invoices, along with service quotes-orders-invoices, and full inventory management. I also have been using Zoho CRM for my contact management which also trying out their marketing piece as well.

I have looked at all of the PSA tools out there and don't like any of them compared to what I am currently doing now. Yes I do have a little double entry when I enter a customer in out point of sale system I also add them into our CRM system....

We've been using an old CRM package called Clientele. Wanting to replace it...started setting up Microsoft Dynamics....just haven't gotten around to playing with it yet.

Basically each day...keep track of stuff each of us does in Outlook..calendar. From there, enter notes into Clientele (it's a networked program with a workstation install for each of us). From there our office manager puts each of our daily notes into Quickbooks and invoices from there.

I use ConnectWise along with their QuickBooks integration. I really only use QB now for the GL and recievables - everything else is in ConnectWise.

I tried repairshopr.com it is interesting but confusing for me. But i do like the simplicity. Anyone use this? Anyone care to help me? I am still open to new suggestions of different applications

Best way to do it, too!

But alas we all seem to think there should be a better alternative out there in our cyber-world to allow us to do it electronically. Too bad there isn't someone in our ranks who could create just the right thing to cover all of our bases!

Happy Turkey Day to those who participate. :)
