Customer brings me a computer. After diagnostics, I see that the hard drive is 10 years old and the motherboard isnt getting any cpu power because the fan is not spinning, plus i see some busted caps.

So I pull out the chip and its an
AMD Athlon 64, the socket it is in says its a 754....I wanna get a new board for it, but am confused if the AM2 is the same thing. I have been reading on some posts but cant come up with anything solid. I am reading about well if you have this version or that version it will work, but not with these soo..

There is some other info on the chip, if this will help anyone ID what speed etc, it is, because I can not boot the machine to see what it is.

AMD2700BQX4AX......there is some other random numbers but dont know if you need them...thanks!

Does this help you identify the processor?

Only place you will find 754 is on ebay, and even then it will be expensive.

754 was before socket 939 (which is also phased out), which is before AM, which is before AM2, and then AM3. That guy's system is WAYYYYY out of date.

Probably chea.per to just rebuild from a new AM2-AM3 system.

Do you have any sales experience?

If so, convice this person to buy a brand new custom PC.

Some selling points to offer him - Upgradable for years, No junky/stripeped down drivers to effect system performance, you get EXCATLY what you want, local support and a better warrenty to name a few... You can build a brand new AM2 for about $350-$400

I would have to agree with everyone else.

Chances are you are not going to find a good board for a reasonable price. You are better off upgrading the customers computer or replacing it.

cleanup the thermal paste of the cpu there should be numbers on it that you can punch into google to identiy for the socket type.

Er, the jpg version there is not better resolution than the .png version at the original site. Far from it. Click on the Download button at the first link. .jpg is a lossy format whereas .png is a lossless format.

My mistake, I didn't see the download link. I was just saving the other image :o
