Custom Built vs. Name Brand PC

For your main pc, do you have a custom built machine or a name brand machine?

I think he means personal (not for business) computers.

I have a custom built HTPC and main desktop. I just combined another custom built PC I had with my HTPC to save on power.

I have 5 other brand computer. One is an old IBM desktop server from 1998. I don't run it much.
 
Custom built all the way. It's nice to know you've got quality components in there and can generally be cheaper. Mainly because you're not forced to pay for a windows license.
 
I do custom build for myself business use or personal as long as Im the user I tend to go custom. If I am trying to get someone a new PC I will look at a custom solution but often a brand name, ie Dell, turns out to give them all they need at the right price.

Me too. If someone wants a machine I turn them to Dell. Especially laptops. I will never do a custom build again for anyone but me.
 
I have a customized name brand.

HP Pavilion a1630n
XP Pro
amd 2x 5200+
4 gb ram
gforce 8500
mobo has 2 IDE and 4 sata
I have a 250 os drive and a 500 data drive

thrown in a Cooler Master Centurion 5 case

Same here. I really wasn't making that much money on the custom builds so I just stopped completely. I now resell Dell's and charge a setup fee. I have a custom built Desktop that is due for upgrading and couple Dell laptops. Like Simmy said, you know you're getting quality components when you do it yourself :)

I actually thought the expensive stuff from MSI was good, learned my lesson!
 
Dell Dimension E520. Very cheap way to get Vista when it first came out (to use for self-development) vs upgrading my old system. Only a celery 3GHz and 3GB RAM, but it's a treat with Win 7.
 
Dell Studio lappy for me running Windows 7 RTM. A lot of usb, hdmi, esata, 1394, vga. I can do quite a bit from this thing. I have a custom built mythbuntu box, that blends in so well with my entertainment system everyone thinks it's a receiver or something. I'm going to be converting that to 7 so I can watch HULU and other stuff to rot my brain. A custom built dvr for my home and office security cameras. In the office, I have a custom built machine everywhere you look.
 
For all of you custom builders, what brand motherboards are you using? I've had good success with Gigabyte and Asus....
