Critique My Company Mascot - Updated Feb 21 on Post 9

So, I wanted an avatar / mascot made to represent my business. I just wanted to get some thoughts and critiques. This is not a final product, but I do like where it is going. He's high tech looking without being the generic geeky guy that everyone likes to put on their site.

Also, I do not think the designer is quite getting what I am asking (bad English) and still has not changed the actual logo, so ignore the logo next to him. However, if you guys have any ideas to make the logo better or to completely change it, please let me know.

I saw this when he accidentally sent it to me instead of you. I personally think its pretty good.

I dont have a comment about the logo or mascot, but in regard to getting what you need from the designer, the thing I have found works best is providing visual examples of what I want. I spent a bit of time having a mascot designed for a project awhile ago and basically said "i want the head from this guy, the body from here, and hands like this". Got a pretty good prototype right off the bat.

Similarly when I Have had logos done, the quickest route to getting what I have visualised has been to show the designer logos that have the elements I need, and then getting them to put them together.

Hope this helps.

I like it! It's similar to the color scheme that I have going on. I also like the logo. What don't you like about it?

Thank You 16K for your suggestion. At first I wasn't quite sure what I wanted, so I gave my designer some ideas. Once he started going in this direction, I had a clearer idea. I have now gone online and found some ideas that I will be sending him and I guess we will see what happens from there.

I am also going to try and make him a littler more serious and maybe a little less cartoonish as well more detailed.

As for the logo, Its ok, I have been using it for a while. I was just hoping to get a fresh perspective on it from my designer. The thing I hate most is the name. At the time that I choose it, it fit the business better, but thats not so much the case now. That might be why I am trying to do something with it . . .

Anyways, thank you for your suggestions, I will be posting an update hopefully tomorrow.

Here is an update. I have asked for more changes, but I wanted to get your thoughts.

Things that I am going to change:

Broader chest, arms and legs.
Posture and facial expression

This is also a comparison between the dark gray and green. I like the dark grey, but I am not sure if its the best color for signs and such.

My first thought was of this guy:

And then the style of the artwork made me think of this woman:

And then I got to thinking "Why are we even talking about mascots?"

Mascots are great for walking around sports games, trade shows, or appearing in television commercials. Anything else and it seems like you'll be spending lots of money to get people to associate your mascot with your business (probably with results that are lacking).

My recommendation is to skip the mascot, change your name (like you mentioned in another thread), and build a logo around that new name to advertise.

And then I got to thinking "Why are we even talking about mascots?"

Because I do not plan on being small for very long. We are already the fastest growing computer repair shop in my town and very soon we will be doing commercials and other things which would benefit us with a mascot. There are a lot of reasons, many of which will be more beneficial later rather than sooner. I also understand the importance of branding and that it takes time. The sooner I establish my brand, the easier it will be recognized in the future.

Besides, people like them . . . and your right, I am trying to get my designer to make it look less like the esurance chick.
