Credit Cards

paypal

I created a button in paypal( go into paypal for that), and I pasted that code to an local html page. I have it on my desktop and if I need it, I open it and it lets me enter the credit card information, clients email, the amount, and the work performed

I have been using square.

I am happy with it so far but i have not made a payment over $100 yet and I am worried about reports that there is a $100 limit.

For the most part if the limit is not true then the service works quite well. They deposit in to your bank account at the end of the week as long as charges are under $1000 and the fee's are not that bad. I took an $85 payment yesterday and they charged me $2.49.

It also makes you look very professional when you can swipe the card right in front of the customer.

Square

I also use square, there is no limit and only transaction fee's, great for tech's.
anything over 1000.00 in 7 days will be held for thirty days and then put into your account.

Its not 7 days. I made a charge yesterday and it is in my account tonight. They make deposits every Friday.

I am glad to here there is not a $100 limit. I can't wait to try it to make sure.

How much is it for setup and is there a monthly fee? if so how much?

We use Quickbooks merchant services, the rates aren't too bad and the ease of use in quickbooks is nice. We can take payments at the terminal, over the phone, or setup recurring payments for our monthly fixed price clients.

Square works well for the small amounts I get (I use paypal as a backup just in case but haven't had to use it lately). Most business that I get in my part time tech work is invoiced or cash for residential clients, so I haven't been able to give it a real workout.

99% of all my transactions are by check. I get a few cash transactions and in the last 7 1/2 months since my business opened I have had 3 or 4 credit card transactions.

This is exactly how my business has been running... maybe 3 card transactions in 10 months. Doesn't justify even the smallest monthly fee (12.95) I've paid to Intuit. +1 to Square.

Thanks for the assistance guys. I think I'll try square. It seems reasonable enough I'm just concerned about it not looking professional in front of customers. (using your cell phone to run credit cards) What are others feelings on this matter?

I think it looks quite professional.

Why would it look any less professional than someone whipping out one of the old carbon copy swipers from their briefcase? I think it'd be a lot more suave than one of those, and right on par with a current single-purpose swipe device.
