On Craigs List, I posted and reposted the same PC for sale, just depends on who's seeing it when. Yesterday some lady called about it, but when she got here she didn't have the correct change, I would have to give her $50 in change. She said I could write her a check for the difference. I said I wouldn't do that - doesn't that seem odd, write a check to someone who's buying your stuff for sale... I thought the seller was supposed to RECEIVE money...

Anyhow, she left irritated, driving to Byrne Dairy or somewhere for change. She called me back (it's almost 8pm now, she arrived at 7:30 for a 7PM appointment), all bitchy stating that SHE'S irritated she had to go out for change, that she was lost, and asked if I would take $300 for the machine (original price, $345).

I responded, you're irritated? You knew the price before you came here. Just forget it then, I'll sell the computer to someone else. Then I hung up.

She called back, I didn't answer the phone. She left a message saying she wasn't irritated with me (could have fooled me, she was very insulting over the phone too), stated she'd pay the full price if I'd sell it to her.

I didn't call her back, but 5 minutes later, another call comes in, with no caller id information (comes up private number). It's her son, who came with her the first time. He apologized on her behalf (he must have been 16 or so), and said they could be right over (again) to buy it. I said OK, and this time he came in by himself. He apologized again, and gave me the money. After I tested it for counterfeit - I gave him a free keyboard and mouse as originally the sale was only for the tower.

The PC sale will pay for my new business sign in the yard, but I wasn't going to get abused by another crazy customer. That's a perk of being your own boss.

It was getting late, the lady was obviously strange, but I didn't want to let the kid go without the PC he wanted, plus it's good to get paid!

After meeting people who have been busted to ID theft I would not have written a check to her even if she brought her son in. So good job. Call me paranoid but it that I actually meet people that will smile and thinking of how they can get something from you as that check. Next thing you know a check is cashed in for $1000.00 or what ever amount.

someone just got into my account and did 2 withdraws of 150.00 each, had to change all my bank accounts and get a new email. I got my money back from the bank within 48 hours.

I never pay with a card or check, always cash. Unless its from an online source, in that case I'll use a debit card with the exact amount of the purchase on it on an account separate from my regular account.
