lol ... its a classic thats for sure! and, at the same time its sad that people are doing this becuase it gives the legit guys like us a bad name. You know just from reading that post, you can tell he does terrible, and horrific work! The market here in Indianapolis is so bogged down with people like this, its unbelievable and us legit guys out here lose work to schmucks like this...

My name is Haydon Brown i am 18 years old. I Have my ged. and i can repair any computer hardware/software issue at low costs. diagnostics are free.

LMAO - Now all you need is a GED to be a computer expert

Fat chance getting aprofessional to work for chump change

I have serously considered replying and telling these people that no tech would accept such a measly salary.

Here is a good one. Having all these skills isnt uncommon, just means they have a few macs, pcs, routers and network drives...but check out the location (for cost of living) and Pay:

I think I'm going to start doing that! It bugs me to no end to see people stealing and completely ripping people off.

Holy crap you're still around here!

I have reported him myself... that guy is such a ripoff artist. He gets flagged and reposts within 15 minutes every day it seems like. The other week he was even advertising a Phenom triple core as 2.1GHz x 3 = 6.3GHz. When confronted about it on CL his response was "well at least thats what eBay says."

It is hilarious to watch that clown in Christopher try to sell old dual core intel computers for several hundred dollars. All of them come with 24x7 tech support and an (activated) copy of Windows 7 Ultimate or XP Pro SP3. Hmm...

Just saw another good one.

Hi. I am a computer tech new to the area, and am seeking new customers to work with. I have 23 years experience in system repair and am trained to work with Microsoft Windows XP, XP Pro, Vista and Windows 7. I am also trained to work on the hardware. As long as this ad is up, I am offering to take on all jobs for a $25 fee, if action is needed. If a system part needs to be replaced, then you cover the cost of the parts. I am friendly, reliable and do good work. You may email me if you need service, but calling me is faster. xxx-xxx-xxxx and ask for Decker.

$25 for all jobs! You guys ought to subcontract to this guy.

if u have a computer system thats not running right give me a call, i live in columbus ohio and will travel anywhere in the state of ohio for one flat price of 120.00 dollars. no matter how long or short the time frame... email me at... XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX , or call me...XXXXXXXXXX. my name is david.

Wow... There are places in Ohio that are almost a four hour drive from Columbus, not to mention the return trip.

Your letter is good and I am one of these people that offer this the no fix no fee. Why as you said if I can replicate it then 99% I can fix but some will not replicate and here are a couple of examples

laptop powers off after 30 mins, I had it on for 5 hours with tests to stress it out but it never powered off

laptop that does not detect the hard drive. booted the laptop about 20 times with no problems and even tested the hard drive.

A lot of companies around my area offer this but I was actually going to drop it in the coming months as I don't get asked about it.

I think my only point about the "No fix, no fee" thing is that it doesn't make sense to advertise that way. If you're a good tech, you can fix it. If you're not, you might give away a lot of your time not fixing systems. I wouldn't be happy to take my car in for repair, to later find out that the mechanic working on it thought he could fix it because he changed his oil once. Needing to take it to someone else wastes my time.

Having said that, I *completely* understand that there are curveball workorders that are insanely hard to pinpoint. They're an exception, and in those cases, yeah...I'd refund people's diag fee, too. But only after exhausting every possible resource I have.

I just wrote an open letter to my local craigslist readers. I'd like some input from Technibble before I post it.

An Open Letter to Craigslist Readers; How to Choose a Computer Repair Company

2 A question we always get at my shop is "What if you can't fix it?" I understand where this question comes from; Lots of people advertising on Craigslist say "If I can't fix it, there's no charge." To me, this speaks volumes about a lack of experience in repair. Nobody would take their car to a mechanic and then be happy when he's had it for a few days only to tell you "I can't fix it." Every computer problem is fixable. I won't lie, some problems can be very difficult to discover because they're intermittent or very specific, but once they're discovered and reproduced a good technician can (and will) find the cause and figure out a fix. Speaking with other fellow technicians, opinions on this vary, but that's mine.

I offer no fix no pay service. But I do it based on what the customer wants. I can fix anything but I will also be the first to tell a customer when it just isn't worth it. You would be surprised how that little bit of honesty can sell a new machine. Most of my customers come back because I was honest with them.

bored and quiet here so I chucked a Craigslist ad on yesterday, and since then I've had 8 spam emails with links pointing to a digg.com url

I didn't realise digg were doing spam links now

Maybe you need a email program like Alpine: ;)
