Well, I'm on a robot kick now I guess. But this is what concerns me.
At 1:15, it starts getting hostile with a human. Security steps in to avert any issues.
Why do they have to make these things 8' tall/350 lbs. and so menacing looking?
EDIT - Wiki says there is an actor inside of it... I don't know much about "Titan..."

I've looked around but could not find out any specs about the battery pack. The model in the OP is the new Atlas which weighs in at 180 lbs but they do not break out the battery system. I'm sure it's LI based. Looking at the Tesla model S the battery pack, also LI, is just over 28% of the total weight. Granted the two systems are very different the Tesla only get a few hours of operation on a full charge. At 180 lbs I'd think the Atlas battery pack is a much smaller percentage of the total weight. No public data on how long the Atlas runs but I'd bet it less than 1 hour. The clip only shows a few minutes in each scenario. Got a long way to go to get something much better than LI.

I think that's a fascinating point, especially once artificial computational complexity matches (or betters) that of the human brain and becomes concious. I think that day is still a long way off, and quite possibly not within my lifetime, but I look forward to it. It's interesting to think however that this may be the next step in our evolution; engineering our own superior successor.

They recently broadcast a TV series in the UK called 'Humans' , where robots/androids were at a stage where they were being used as carers, childrens nannies, servants....you could even buy "optional extras" that unlocked some more unsavoury services. They portrayed them as just another purchase.
Apart from the obvious that it would take a much more advanced (future) technology to even come close to human interaction, it did make you think, as it seemed so plausible how they could be used - even down to a personalisation process for the buying customer .
I don't think I'll be around when things progress that far, but things will change in the future....depends how much.

I'm surprised they allowed that guy to get that close. I have been watching loads of Titan videos. Very impressive. I bet he is good to see live.

It amazes me when people say things like "not in my lifetime". You do realise that, only 10 years ago, smartphones were a novelty and no-one really wanted one. Cloud was an idea, little more. Self driving cars, it'll be 50 years at least? You're techies people - you should know how fast this stuff moves.
I agree, but AI and consciousness isn't just a progressive step, it's a much bigger leap, in a different direction. It's certainly well within the realms of possibility to create an artificial brain that equals or surpasses the power of the human brain (the human brain is nothing more than a biological computer after all) but that technology is still a long way off.
To mimic the human brain, especially it's plasticity, learning capacity and acquired conciousness, you need to build a system that works like the human brain; you need a system built on neural networks that can grow, build and repair itself, much like the human brain. In that respect, our best attempts can barely compete with the brain of a fly ..... yet.
I do wish we were much further advanced though. I'd love to be around to see the day when an artificially created system becomes complex enough to develop conciousness. That will without doubt become mankind's greatest achievement and it will be a world-changing moment. It will likely raise more questions than it answers however, especially those pertaining to human morals and existence, but it will mark a moment that our technology truly moves up to the next level.

Human cloning is another thing I can see a long way off in the future but could be possible.
They have done very well with Aimee Copeland's progress. Her skill/dexterity amazes me with the prosthetics that she has.

How about a big ESD generator. We all know ESD kills hardware, that and excessive heat.
I think those would be my weapons of choice against something that is made mostly of metal
and surely has sensitive computer hardware inside it.
I'd say one of the two should do the trick.
