Connection to router but no internet

I dont think this has been suggested but I have seen this problem resolved many times by removing the Firewall/Virus software on the machine. I have had a few systems which needed to have the uninstall utils ran in order to get the net back up and running correctly rather than just uninstall from CP ( mainly Nortons and Trend Micro).

Yes good point I had this a while ago.

Yep I had the exact problem described on a pc with Norton installed. I had to run the Norton Removal Tool and after a restart all was working again. Just a thought. Funny that Trend Micro was mentioned, that is the only other AV that I've seen cause this problem. It was a brand new machine with Trend on it and when it was completely removed, all was good.

I hav visited the routers settings page and reset all to default still no good, i have tried another 2 different routers which are working fine with my own machines, nslookup is telling me default server: unknown and address is 127.0.0.1, i have also noticed that when i ping google.com i get the following error: Ping request could not find host www.google.com Please check rhe name and try again, i have reset winsock again, reset hosts file, flushed and registered dns but still no good

The DNS is showing the loopback address it should be the IP of the router or the DNS setting the isp gave you. Set the dns settings manually to the open dns ones to test

I mentioned Norton and Trend Micro as they are the most common ones I see an issue such as this ( although this may not be the problem in this case) but from my experience these 2 Security Suites tend to cause the most issues so far as connectivity goes. I have had other Security programs which cause this, usually when they have been hosed due to virus or malware.

Funny though, Trend Micro is the only one which I know of that installs its standalone remover as part of the software ( usually part of TIStool.exe or something like that) , all the others you need to go and get from the software sites as far as I am aware.

Yes it surely looks to be a DNS problem. Also do an ipconfig /all and post the results

from basics, whats the ip you get with ipconfig. Is it a valid IP? IF you can ping a URL more than likely it is.

Try to ping by both IP or URL, this will definitely pinpoint a DNS issue. ALso ensure all firewall internet security are turned off, you can also try SMWN just to make sure.
You can also check to see if its a NAT/Firewall issue by doing a tracert from a pc outside the network to the public address. It the route doesn't make it back to the host IP you know its being blocked.

try to constantly ping a URL, is it you are connected but just dropping packets. Try to ping with 1500 bytes. This will work if you see yourself connected but unable to browse. You can ping your local DNS IP to ensure you get a response.

Here is a copy of the Ip config file

Ive just been told that the registry was reverted to the one at orginal installation and norton was installed with the manufacturers set-up disc, i have removed the norton files but the fault is still evident maybe I need to reinstall norton as this may be causing the fault.

Did you use the norton removal tool. If not give it a try first.

I have had a similar issue twice, un-install all network cards in device manager
reboot, reboot again after Windows re-installs them then try for a connection.
Worked for me on both occasions after trying everything else. Still baffles me to this day as to why.
