While downloading, Kaspersky Web anti-virus said the file contains a trojan program.

The file in question is this one

What gives? false alarm?

false positive reasons

a "anti" program needs to undo what the bad guys do so they have similar code, that code triggers the alarm

It's probably just giving a false positive on magic jellybean keyfinder.

About every two months this topic gets created.

Mr. Mille, it's likely to be a false positive. I'm not sure what you're linking to there but I've just downloaded the kit and it scans fine for me.

Doortodoorgeek - PC Decrapifier isn't an anti-anything. It just automatically uninstalls the crapware that PC manufacturers install on their new systems.

Jory, if you read MrMille's post it's referring to PCDecrapifier not Magical Jellybean although Magical Jellybean does regularly falll foul of security software.

The same thing happened for me as well. I have AVG7.5 running on my home pc and it removes it.

its a false positive kaspersky picked that up as a trojan on my machine as well.

not only kaspersky does this, also kaspersky does tell you 90+ "not-a-virus" in the description of the results

In the eyes of independent test, this is a good thing, it shows the tool is smart enough to ID bad code but smart enough to earmark it as "not-a-virus"

But wow this is a sore subject for some people

I would constantly back that drive up and after sticking it in a windows box I would put it in a linux box and reformat and restore the backup

a usb key can easily become hacksawed or get a autorun type virus

When you get what seems to be a false positive, run it through Clamwin free AV, its saved me alot of headaches! Not a resident scanner.
