Hello,

Just a quick question to those who use the great Computer Business Kit sold on this site. I bought the kit a while ago and am about to start using it now that my business is ready to start up.

The main reason I bought it was for the engagement form that clients sign before work is done on their computer. This form is valuable because I am about to purchase my insurance and I want to make sure I cover myself as much as possible.

My question is the following.... When reading through the form, it initially has the following:
<business name> fix computers for both business users and home users and this short document is made to inform you, as a Home User of the realities of computer fixing....

But then the rest of the engagement form is aimed entirely at home clients. I intend on servicing both home and small business clients, and am wondering if other Technibble members modify this form for business clients as well?
Are businesses happy to sign this form, or is there some other way I should engage them?

Finally, if I modify the wording to apply to businesses as well, am I covered legally the same as for home users?

Please can you give me any advice you may have, this is a very important question I need answered before I can properly get going.
Thanks in advance,

Michael.

Yeah, you can modify it anyway you want as long as the client signs it, it's all good and legal. My boss uses his own "cover our own asses" work order agreement that says right there that the client may not get their pc back in any working condition depending on concurrence to our recommendations. It also states we are not responsible for any data loss incurred during diagnostics and/or virus and malware removal. It also has a clause stating that the shop is not responsible for any damage or changes made after leaving our shop (voltage sags and spikes, registry/windows corruption, viri/malware) It's all in finer print, but he has the right idea because you cannot account for what a client will do with their pc the second they leave with it or you leave their business. I've seen clients come right back to our shop with fried components because they went home and plugged it right in to an over saturated power strip(not surge protector contrary to their belief). I've also witnessed people come back right away with the exact same malware and viri same day because they have gone right to shady websites (like crack sites and pron sites) after refusing our anti-virus/spy-ware scanner recommendations. When I get the kit and open shop I will mod the hell outta the service and maintenance contracts because I live in a state where most people can't tell the difference between hardware, software or fucking Tupperware. Have a good one mate.
