So I aquired a compaq armada e500 laptop for free and I went ahead and got some new memory for it. The max allowed. I popped the keyboard out, and took the two sticks out and they came out fine it seemed, i put the new ones in and they seemed to go in fine as well. Now it just does a steady, beep beep beep beep non stop and will not start. Put the old memory back in and it did the same thing. Not sure what to even think. its probably toast. Any thoughts?

Im sure you know the specs of the computer but the only thing I can think of is maybe you got ECC ram instead of non ECC.

RAM

* Installed Size 128.0 MB / 512.0 MB (max)
* Technology SDRAM - 100.0 MHz
* Form Factor SO DIMM 144-pin

Try this. Pop out the battery, disconnect the power adaptor, and then push and hold the power button for a couple seconds. Then reinsert the original ram, followed by the battery. See of if it will boot after that.

Pretty slim chance it's the keyboard, but it's wroth a shot. You may fired your motherboard. Make sure you did not knock anything else loose while you were working in there, CPU fan maybe cable is loose not plugged in?

I had a simliar issue with an HP a few months ago. Once I got it home it would just constantly beep. It didn't match any beep codes provided by HP. This was using the original memory which I hadn't touched. The only thing I had done was remove the battery. I tried re-seating the memory, resetting the BIOS to it's defaults, made sure all connections were secure. Nothing made a difference.

In the end, and as a last resort, I flashed the BIOS with the latest version, and that solved the problem.
