Hey everyone, just want to say I love the site and all the time and effort that everyone in the community puts into it. Technibble is truly an invaluable resource for the up and comers.

So my question is I had a leading idea for a company/site name: QTech.com. However a simple whois will show Staples owns the domain and have been sitting on it for the last 9 years. I really like the name, should I shoot an email to Staples, add on to the url such as "Qtechrepair.com" or should I get a completely new name in order to avoid confusion (remembering qtech.com is unhosted).

Thanks for the help and advice and stay awesome, Technibble!

I can almost guarantee you that Staples won't get rid of it if they have owned it for over 9 years. If they did, I'm sure they will make you pay upwards of $1k+ to get it from them.

Personally, I would come up with a new name. I had a heck of a time coming up with mine, especially because I didn't want someone else to get me confused with another company. If they see "PDX Micro", they will immediately want to go to "pdxmicro.com" and if its not your website, you likely just lost that customer.

You have to spoon feed your business to your customer. Don't make them search around to find you :)

By the way, welcome :D

While good domains are getting harder to find, they're not impossible. What about something as simple as "IT###", using your area code? I've got, for example, pfc1x and pcrepa1r among my alternate sites. And don't ignore high SEO names like CitynameComputerRepair
