I mean, how is this possible - where is the data stored? How do they do anything WITH whatever media they manage to get the data onto? They can't possibly do credit/debit cards, can they? Those things look way too clean to be in use in an active bakery - they should be covered with flour and powered sugar at least. I have so many questions.
Why on earth not? The POS terminal is alive and well and living all over the place. Square doesn't require a computer connection to be used and you can run credit transactions from your cell phone.
Handling payment and generating an invoice/ticket are often completely separate endeavors for many a small business. (They are for mine.)
When is the last time you were in the front of house for a bakery? The sales areas are almost routinely spotless. Kitchens, not so much, but even those are most often cleaner than my kitchen is. You don't have a layer of flour dust or confectioners sugar you could write in lying around routinely. Gleeming stainless predominates except when dough is being actively worked on floured surfaces.
