With the amount of cold weather i am getting very unusual since Oct 31 temps avg -20 dipping as low as -45 at times frost has driven into the ground over 18 ft.
The frost has lifted the concrete step/pad over 3 inches now it's almost impossible to open the door what is odd is we have ALOT of snow yet frost is a major problem even the city pipes are freezing due to extreme cold and now i have dozens of insurance claims from water damage enough to keep me busy for months.
Not sure what i can do about door though even the door/window company we called says not much can be done.
There are hundreds of houses that need water pipes thawed out never seen this happen on this scale before the number of extreme cold weather alerts are up 500% this year It like living in Siberia.

You're a bit North of me but it's just as bad down here. Heard a piece on the radio which said that NYC, which is close to 200 miles south of me and on the coast, has had it's coldest February in 80 years. Massachusetts has even suspended a rule about dumping snow into water bodies because they have run out of places to pile it in many areas.

Yeah it's insane....Feb has officially taken the trophy as the coldest on record here in New England.
And many areas, such as Boston...the heaviest snowfall winter on record.
Just had most snow last night down here on CT...about ready to get out with the snowblower.
And then do it AGAIN tomorrow-Wednesday.

No major issues at the shop, but my rental house has 5K worth of damage from water damming seeping into the house. Definitely colder than normal and I am tired of wind chill warnings in the negative double digits.

I had to have my door raised on my shop because frost is pushing up the concrete pad in front of my door is this is the first time i ever had that happen they had to take the door off and grind off metal on the bottom and raise the bottom frame.
Hope it warms up soon and that water pipes to strip mall don't freeze good thing there is a laundromat there they keep water flowing all day.
What is really scary i have never heard this happening before is even the municipal water station's are frozen they are there for emergencies people who have no water have to try to find ones that are not frozen.

It's bad in Montreal as well. The only way to keep it from freezing is to have a continuous stream of water in the lowest part of your house. We had it colder than the GTA.

Doh! not again the concrete under my door is still going up that would be 4 times i called for service going to cost me $300 for all this because i have 2 doors.

Frost this year is going to cost me about $3000 now that weather is warming up the frost pushed store front up and now its going back cracked brick and cracked large store front window, windows, door and ac/heating system is in our lease going to have to replace front window.
Never seen anything like this frost caused city and people millions in damages roads are all messed up holes and buckling everywhere.

Be careful raising the doors bottom frame and grinding off the bottom of the door. Once everything thaws out that concrete that raised up will probably settle back down and then you're stuck with a large gap at the bottom of your doors

Will probably have to replace the doors in the summer (if summer ever arrives there). Today we're looking at about 76 degrees with a nice breeze off the ocean and in Santa Paula it must be in the 80's today

My son's wife used to live in Ontario (born in Thailand) and after a number of winters and nearly driving off a bridge, she decided she had had enough and moved to Southern California where she met my son.
