Cloudberry Remote Assist (beta)

I don't get why they want to work on this. I think of them as being good at backup solutions. Seems like they're spreading themselves thin by doing this.

Yeah, seems like a weird move. If they had bought out another program and wanted an additional revenue source, it'd make more sense to me. Building on from the ground up seems like a huge expense, unless they're going after the 'cheap' market left behind by the 500+/year powerhouses.

Maybe it does make sense. Didn't notice this feature before (or maybe it's new) but you can restore an entire system image to a cloud provider like AWS or Azure. I guess you might want to remote in to a remote copy of your system in the cloud and need a tool to do that with?

I saw Cloudberry's website, and an alleged 'customer' comment on Remote wishing for 'a more robust paid version in the future'...!

Riiiight, that's what every customer wants ASAP...loss of the free version! :)

I did not see any disclaimers about personal/commercial use in the 'free' disclaimer...oddly enough. So, it might be an option better for some folks not happy with Teamviewer's annual subscription mode...

To many companies these days want to be a jack of all master of none....

I hate seeing branch off projects that get attention and funding from management for like 6 months then are killed off.

My guess is they are going for the crack affect, the first hit is free then we start charging.

Like the kid in school who reminded the teacher that she forgot to assign homework!

It's basically a slowly-developing beta, because it's still moving data through their servers.

Also doesn't default to encrypted sessions (see FAQ).

This strikes me as someone's "20% time" project, though I don't know if Cloudberry does that kind of thing.

I don't think it would be difficult to surpass the current offerings for remote desktop software and this company has relationships with several MSPs already right? Could be interesting.

Per their site:

Q: Can I use RA in the commercial environment?
A: Yes, currently the product is free and may be freely implemented in your commercial environment.
