Hi to you all, i've got something in my mind and it's bugging me like hell.... whenever a do a HDD to SSD upgrade and i try to clone it (using HDClone), it doesn´t work fine, i can't boot the cloned SSD right (wheter its a HDD 500GB to a SSD 240GB or to a SSD with 500GB), it just doesn't work, so i end up doing a fresh install and losing the recovery partition on some machines...
What cloning software do you use to clone HDD to SSD? is it possible to just clone the recovery partition?
Thanks to all :D

AOMEI Backupper does a fine job cloning HDDs to SSDs. Never a problem. You can also edit the partition sizes but I didn't see an option to not include a partition. It does automatically scale to fit, if there's enough room, then I just delete the Recovery partition and expand the OS partition. Just did one of my systems like that today; went without a hitch.

I think Acronis True Image does this as well. Occasionally, there are some keys posted on the forum so grab one if you can and try it.

Acronis True Image doesn't let you do any partition modifications for the destination (at least 2015 didn't)

IMO the recovery partition is usually not work keeping anyway. It's usually a much older version of Windows so why would it ever be restored?

I use Paragon software for cloning. The trick to keep in mind for cloning is to always select the entire drive to copy, not individual partitions. If you just choose all the individual partitions it might not copy the boot sector.

The Samsung tool is Acronis.

I've always just used Clonezilla when I need to image stuff, but it cannot change the partition size so moving stuff from a larger disk to a smaller one is impossible.

I use HD Clone Professional. You have to make sure to select "Clone Drive" then you want to adjust the partition size automatically. Works every time. If it's not working for you then you have a problem with your equipment.

then i'm probably doing something wrong... :|

I'm not using anything special. Just a couple of USB 3.0 docks. But if you try to clone to a smaller drive and fail to adjust the partition size, it won't boot. I always let the program adjust the partition size automatically. I don't think I've ever manually adjusted it.

Clonezilla was great when I was replacing small spinners with larger spinners or too same size. Multicast was so nice when I used to have to setup 15 computers in a training lab. I could image 15 computers in about 15 minutes when the old IT guy took days with Ghost.

I ran into this issue before fortunately it was a Samsung and their tool worked but every standard tool failed my thought I was going from a smaller to larger drive and from an SSD to SSD. I ended up just taking the win and moving on though I generally prefer to just do a clean load to a new drive and manual migration or use a tool designed to migrate data not mirror. I mostly have my preference from the older days when migration tools were far less reliable than they seem to be today.

IIRC I was using macrium reflect free on a bootable windows 10 PE image (downloaded from somehwere on this site? Maybe one of the software collection threads).

It is FANTASTIC for cloning larger spinners to smaller SSDs, provided of course there isn't more data used on the spinner than the total capacity of the SSD. 100GB of data on a 500GB spinner clones just fine to a 240GB SSD. Very happy with it, nice interface. Free. What more can you ask for. Although probably, if your using it for "business use"... the TOA probably state that you can't use anything but the paid version for business usages.

Quick question: when using HDClone what is the option to create an image of the entire disk?
Images > Smartimage?
or
Backup > Store?
