I have a few clients who are visually impaired, physically disabled and I have one who is totally blind. The last one is a lady who is in her 50s and has been totally blind for 30 years so hasn't learnt technology and gone blind, no sight at all she has glass eyes. She doesn't just sit there and feel sorry for herself she is so technology aware it's unbelievable. She has a desktop, a laptop, an Ipod, surround sound, scanner, printer etc and she manages them all herself. I was there today replacing a psu in her scanner that had failed and delivering some toner for her printer. Just a quick instruction on how to change the toner cartridge(I showed her but let her do it) and she is away and done it herself. To cap it all she paid me online through my Paypal account then just a few minutes ago emailed my because my digital receipt had a spelling mistake in it! and I'm the one with sight!

Does anyone else deal with people like this who show up 99% of my clients for ability?

For my day job we have a blind client and yes; he opens way less tickets than most.

Yes! A good client I've had for a few years now has glass eyes and is exactly like this! (She just got an iphone 4s which she says is the most accessible phone she's ever had).

I don't have any blind customers, but I have plenty who are sight impared.

On the same topic, there is a pretty handy tool you can use to check your website for accessibility for blind and colorblind. I ran it on mine and it scored pretty well.

I actually saw some problems on my site while I was showing her where to pay. She uses a program called JAWS that talks to her on what she is viewing and tabbing to on screen and it becameobvious that improvements were needed. My invoice that I email has a link to my testimonials but not direct to my Paypal page! duh! Thanks for the link.

I've heard this said before... I truly don't understand how that's possible. I would think that buttons with tactile feedback would be easier. Did she give you any insight on this? I'd love to know, just because I'm curious.

Yeah the JAWS and WindowsEyes thing is kind of like the mac vs. PC thing...they tend to stick with what works for them! I do know most of her blind friends use JAWS, that seems to be a little more standard.

We use JAWS, although honestly I have no experience with the others! I may have to bliindfold myself and play around!
