Is there anything out there that will track client and computer work orders without the billing part? I know about TSMan and Commit but I am looking for something a little simpler. Any Joomla add ins that would work?

SugarCRM.

replace "Cases" with "Work Orders" and "Clients" with "Accounts" and you basically have what you are asking for.

I think you can actually rename them in the software. There are a lot of other things included that you probably won't need, but it's free.

There is guy on technibble that was in the middle of building one for techs here..

I'd be interested in hearing a detailed review, maybe from someone who's also used TSman or CommitCRM trials.

My problem with MtITCRM is the fear that development will cease.

Well in order for it to Not stop is by getting everyone involved... right now there is one specific programmer doing all the work, so it's kinda hard on him... I understand everyone's fears.

I am trying to do my part in making sure that doesn't happen///

I'll be sticking with vtiger, I've just added an asset tracking module to not only better manage client hardware, but also my own. I've just bought some laptops which I intend to use as loan machines and I want a system to formally manage them. I'll also be incorporating future marketing campaigns from within vtiger.

Developing a CRM system is a major undertaking, you only have to look at the many stalled projects on SourceForge to see that. vtiger & its fork SugarCRM have evolved over the past few years of development and now can boast a very large user base between them, this helps further drive community development.

Might I ask what module that was? I'd looked at Vtiger some time ago and decided not to. Might be time for a second look. Thanks

I wrote my own system

While there are many systems out there that keep track of customer lists I could never find anything that tracked work flow. At my shop I have 2-4 people all working on the same computers at the same time. We work on up to 14 computers simultaneously. So I needed something that could keep track of what has and hasn't been done on a system. I also wanted something that could keep track of how much to charge customers.

In the course of writing the system one of the things I discovered, is that customers don't understand how much value they are getting for the work I put into their computer. So everytime one of my technitions performs an action on a computer, a note automatically gets added to a printout explaining in lay terms what was done and why it was done. My customers love it because instead of getting a reciept with a one liner, they get 1-4 pages of info to read about the work that was done on their computer. It also saves me lot of time not having to explain the same things over and over, by having it printed on the customer sheet.

I know how to make a webpage, I really don't understand CSS all that well, and I have a basic knowledge of PHP, MYSQL and apache. So I wrote the system in PHP. Being on the web makes it accessible from anywhere. I had written my own basic point of sale system 6 months prior to writing my repair tracking system. It took me two solid days to write the repair system and I have been fine tuning it ever since. A month ago I bought one of those cheap all in one asus touchscreen computer so a month ago I spend half a day and added a touch screen interface to the system.

You can see some screenshots of the system here:

Sharing your program would be a real nice thing for you to do or make it an open source project.

I will help with the program any way I can I just can't program and don't have the time to learn. I used to do alot of beta testing for spiceworks in the early years.

stro, that is a very nice system.

I am writing one for my business also. It is in line with what I wish to do with my business as I plan on expanding to also offering services for other companies. This is assuming I ever finish it... lol.

edit: you forgot to blank out the URL on the printout screenshot.

That is very impressive. I echo the "please share" sentiments, and hope you charge a little for your work.

vtiger Asset Management Module. You'll need to be logged it to download it.

vtiger gives me a bad feeling. Seems like they skimp out on things so you will pay them to create it for you. I have seen people in the forums contacting them to pay for things i think should already be a part of the system.

I am testing this asset module and wondering why it could not be found on their official list of modules...? Another red flag.
