Clean your clients computers !!!

Yes please, so many clients brings in computer that were at other repair's places, dirty as f***.

I've been taught this way (old boss), once I finish a repair. I clean the computer. I make it look good !
Remove that old sticker glue !
I think it's a big attention that clients notice and it makes you another step above those poor repair places !

I think this thread belongs in marketing because it is somehow a marketing (re-marketing) factor.

New thing I'm setting up too is the repair box !
You put repaired or new PC's in that pretty branded box to hand to your clients.

Heard it on The Computer business podcast, Josh Elledge from www.upendpr.com, thank you !

Still a work in progress but hell I love it.

We do this at our shop. First task for desktops and laptops is we take them outside and blow out the dust with the air compressor. For laptops, we put a paper clip in the fan vent to stop the fan from spinning. Every once in a while, for a particularly dust computer, we find no other issues after blowing it out. Customer's problems just vanish. Not often, but interesting how dust alone can cause the issues the customer is experiencing.

After all repairs have been completed, we wipe down the screen, bezels, keyboard. It gives a really good impression to the customer. When training my techs, I make the analogy that it's like your mechanic giving your car a car wash after repairs.

I use these for laptops that I refurbish and sell. I then print my own labels when needed, much cheaper. Desktops? Not so much. I rarely have desktops as I do strictly custom builds and they are built and placed in the box the case came in.

At Staples we had small boxes that all laptop power cords, software etc went in, to make it neat when placing on the finished rack and to make sure nothing was lost. Then a label was put on the box and laptop identifying customer. I'm thinking of having similar system here if I can get everyone onboard.

I've had that too. Amazing how much clearer the screen is after cleaning off ~3 years' worth of the customer's dust, spit, food and who knows what else. Funny how it never seems to occur to these people to clean the screen themselves.

Not cleaning related but I had a client that dropped their laptop in for repair. I noticed the screen was really dim!
So I just used the shortcuts on the keyboard to brighten it up a bit.
Client had used it with the dim screen forever and had no idea that it could be brighter!

We discussed this issue in a private thread awhile ago - (Those that are not members will not be able to see)

That's where I mentioned - "We clean all computers that come through. It's an easy thing that results in more appreciation than the repair work sometimes. We never spray anything directly on the machine but use a common cleaner like Fantastic on the rag for the laptop and lens cleaner on a glasses lens cloth for the screens. We spray a little Pledge wax on a rag, let it soak in and lightly wipe the track pad and keyboard areas to restore the glide. We get the "Oooo - It even feels new again" quite a bit.

@edit - We also keep plastic razor blades on the benches and remove most of the crappy labels that come on the palm rest (QR codes, feature lists, etc.) on today's laptops. Any residual adhesive is removed with denatured alcohol on a rag.
